Having played together in various combinations
over the years, the Rincon Ramblers emerged in 1994 as a sort of "loosely-knit
super group of local acoustic music players", combining five of the South Coast's
busiest, most prominent and respected musicians- JON
WILCOX, ALAN THORNHILL, PHIL SALAZAR, BILL FLORES, and DAN
WILSON. All native sons of the Santa Barbara-Ventura area, each brings decades
of performing, recording and writing styles from their respective solo careers
and stints with Marley's Ghost,
The Acousticats, The Country Z Men, Chris
Hillman, Kenny Loggins, Nick Gravenites, John McEuen, Kate Wolf, The Fender
Benders, The Pontiax, and Crossroads.
Richly-textured, soulful vocals of Alan Thomhill
(guitar) and Jon Wilcox (guitar and mandolin) driven by the dynamic grooves
of Bill Flores (dobro, pedal steel, banjo, accordions), Phil Salazar (fiddle)
and Dan Wilson (bass, guitar), they cover a variety of styles ranging from modern
and traditional folk and bluegrass to R&B, bluegrass, Celtic, New Acoustic
and "progressive surfgrass."
With the 1997 release of their CD, THE GREEN
ROLLING HILLS OF LA CONCHITA, and wildly acclaimed appearances at the Strawberry
Music Festival near Yosemite, the Ramblers have been reaching a wide and enthusiastic
audience. Roll on, Mighty Ramblers!
