Queen Mab entwines evocative strains of the world's ancient and living
folk music heritage with an expressive and contemporary musical imagination.
Drawing deeply from the music of celtic Ireland and Scotland, while exploring
melodies and rhythms of medieval Europe, India, and the Americas, Queen Mab
weaves an entrancing tapestry of original compositions and innovative settings
of traditional tunes.
Queen Mab was founded by husband-wife team Mark Schlenz (fiddle, viola, viol
da gamba) and Jane Freeburg (celtic harp, accordion), who perform with Teresa
Bothman (cello) and Jane Hahn (Irish flute, vocals) and a variety of special
guests. The ensemble presents an annual concert, Winter Tales, at the Santa
Barbara Museum of Natural History on the eve of the Winter Solstice. Queen Mab
performs on acoustic instruments and specializes in unamplified and educational
concert presentations.
