Luis Moreno was born near East L.A. on Easter Sunday, 1946. Exposed
at an early age to a variety of music through family friends and parochial schools,
Luis began playing folk guitar while in high school.
In December of 1973 Luis left L.A. traveling to San Juan Bautista, California
to join El Teatro Campesino (The Farmworkers' Theatre). Under the tutelage of
Daniel Valdez, David Silva, and Francisco González, Luis developed an appreciation
and understanding of the wide varieties of Mexican music. Toward the end of
his tenure in San Juan Bautista, he met guitarist Barrett Nelson.
Luis began his musical association with Mike Mullins after moving to Santa
Barbara in 1987, while working on Una Pastorela, a Shepherd's Play, performed
at The Presidio Chapel.
Luis is currently recording a collection of songs from the Mission and Rancho
periods of Early California in collaboration with Elizabeth Erro Hvolboll.
San
Francisco Bay Area born Mike Mullins took up guitar at the age of ten,
mandolin at age twenty and has been an active participant on the international
acoustic music scene for over two decades. In 1990 he co-founded the Acousticats
with longtime musical cohort Phil Salazar, doing double duty on guitar and mandolin
before leaving the group in 1992.
In addition to his five year musical partnership with Luis Moreno,
which showcases his formidable mandolin skills, he has since 1993 been guitarist
and resident songwriter for Santa Barbara's renowned 'beyond Bluegrass" ensemble,
the Cache Valley Drifters.
Mike lives in Carpinteria, California with his wife, Laura and
son Tim. He keeps a busy performance and studio schedule and to date has appeared
on over thirty recordings including the critically acclaimed 1996 John McEuen
release "Acoustic Traveler".
Guitarist
Barrett Nelson has been playing for 38 years---performing since he was
11 years old. His musical abilities also include songwriting, arranging, composing,
and vocals.
In addition to extensive studio and live performances, Barrett has worked with
Et Teatro Campesino, San Francisco Mime Troupe and with Jazz and Blues legend
Barbara Dane.
