Leslie Lembo wanted to be a singer as far back as she can remember.
Born in San Francisco into a musical family, she grew up surrounded by
a myriad of musical styles. She journeyed through folk groups, rock &
roll and rhythm & blues bands, at the same time becoming proficient on
the guitar and harmonica. Song writing and classical voice study were
also on her musical agenda. Influenced by Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald,
Sarah Vaughn and James Taylor, she has now found her own distinctive
vocal style.
In the late eighties Leslie co-founded the popular Southern California
band "Raw Silk", and developed the vocal power and stage presence
that she possesses today.
Leslie has also been in high demand for personal appearances, and as
a guest singer on other top local artist's recording projects. After a
two year sojourn in Hawaii, Leslie returned to Santa Barbara in 1998,
where she contacted Peter Clark, an established pianist, composer
and arranger, and expressed her desire to expand her musical horizons
even further. Well aware of her talent for several years, Peter has been
appearing with Leslie at his restaurant "Andria's Harborside" for the
past two years, and preparing for her debut recording.
Accompanied by some of Santa Barbara's finest musicians, Leslie displays
an impressive ability to "read" the wide range of material contained in
this album, which includes her own popular compositions "Seafood"
and "What A Light." From the cool, jazz-tinged "Ultimate
Exciter" and "Reflection" to the personal drama
of "Was-n't I The One" and "A Bridge Across Forever"
to the haunting "Song For Dorothy" the message really comes
across, and we have a strong feeling you wilt be hearing more from this
fine singer.
