"You are a very talented songwriter... My roommate cracked up when I
mentioned some of the lyrics. You have a wonderful energy about you and
of course it only adds to your performance. It's very rare to see a performer
who not only entertains but also makes the audience feel very welcomed and comfortable.
Your listeners come from all walks of life, very eclectic crowd ... I love that!"
- Wende Allyn, Thousand Oaks, CA
Nicola Gordon wants to have a few words with you. You've probably
had them too. Feeling off kilter, feeling strangely fine, you know, life.
With a fluid voice and an acoustic guitar, the vision of a poet and the
fool's journey, Nicola's got the courage to open a few dingy doors, tiptoe through
a few tulips; what ever it takes to get to here.
Nicola is constantly exploring the creative process. She has two CDs:
TURNING, released in 1998, and CHAOS
INFINATUM, just out in March 2000. Over the past four years she
has been teaching on-going songwriting classes through Adult Ed and all-day
songwriting workshops called SONGWEAVING. Nicola organizes monthly
songwriter circles for established songwriters and showcases for emerging artists
in her classes. She created the Millennium Songfest and other musical
events around town. The Independent, Santa Barbara's local weekly,
has recently crowned her 'the hardest working songwriter in Santa Barbara'.
Nicola plays both solo, with a full band and everything in between all around
Southern and Central California. She thrives on the intimacy of home concerts
and enjoys the thrill of large concert halls. Gordon has opened for many
headliners of the acoustic music scene, including Patty Larkin, Cheryl Wheeler,
Jonatha Brooke, and Venice.
Born and raised in Massachusetts, Ms Gordon took a solo journey hitchhiking
across the country in search of the Holy Grail. She found her own version
while playing guitar and singing to a bag of whole-wheat flour (while working
in a health food store a few lifetimes ago) and hasn't stopped since. Single
mom of a teenager, gardener, avid reader and rockhopper, Nicola Gordon has it
pretty darn good.
In her spare time, this Santa Barbarian might be found doodling, dancing with
babies, or walking Lola the dog extraordinaire.
"I really enjoyed your concert, even though I'm in a bit of an off place, going
through some changes as the boys from CSNY used to call it. But the more
I hear of your music, the more I hear connections with those heart things I
deal with, that we all deal with ... love keeps coming back... 'haven't talked
to you in a long time ... I'll always love you'. All the good strong happy
sad real stuff. It's good to share that with you, or rather I guess because
of you, because it's from you... Jim Lawrence, Santa Barbara
