Perry Bathous [BATH-oos] came up with the name FIFTH COLUMN FETISH
back in 1990 while relaxing at home in sunny Isla Vista, California. As soon
as he could teach himself MIDI on his first used sampler and sequencer setup,
he released the first FCF single, 1991, a commentary on the Persian
Gulf War, with "The Joy of Life" on the B-side. A follow-up remix of 1991, called
9191, was released only as a limited edition free for friends and acquaintances.
The songs bleed rage, anxiety, twisted humor, and a curious preoccupation with
death and warfare. The intent is, and was then to hybridize and experiment:
forays into hip-hop, early Revolting Cocks-style spoken voice sampling, jazz
and thrash guitar work are evident.
FIFTH COLUMN FETISH, the self-titled debut mini-album, was released on CD and
cassette on Bathos in 1996. Cruise on the sensual nightmarescape of laid-back
"Route 666", or just smack your head open on the pavement to "Condescent"
and "Go Off". Nationally distributed by Etherhaus, it has already been
reviewed on various internet zines and has drawn interest from as far away as
Slovenia in Eastern Europe.
Current live FCF personnel:
Perry Bathous -- vocals, samples, guitars, sequence
