Peter Feldmann
Peter Feldmann

Peter Feldmann has been performing old time, early country, and bluegrass music throughout the American West since 1961. Hen Cackle Records is proud to announce the release of a new recording, sampling the range of Peter's talents and interests. Good Fellow covers a variety of music, including cowboy songs, fiddle & banjo tunes, old time novelty numbers, blues, and bluegrass.

Especially interesting is Peter's approach to a new blending of early rural and urban musical styles which he terms Neo-Classic Country Music. Peter notes: "Any biologist will tell you that sex is nature's way of recombining genetic information into new individuals, which in turn gives rise to new species of animals and plants. I've decided to explore "musical sex" in an attempt to create new forms or musical styles. Good Fellow is the first in a series of CD projects intended to demonstrate my results.

Peter is joined on this release by several musicians, including Wayne Shrubsall of Albuquerque NM with whom he formed The Old Time Band, fiddler Jim Wimmer, known both for his fiddling and fiddles. Stan Tysell, a Western song stylist; bassists Phil Pritchard and Jim Hutchison; city-slicker instrumentalist Robin Frost; jazz guitarist Chris Judge; internationally-known violinist Gilles Apap, and "Ms. Francine". (Frost, Tysell, Apap, Judge, Hutchison, and "Ms. Francine", all from Santa Barbara, make up Peter's Neo-Classic Band Crème Brûlé which is featured on this CD, along with his bluegrass band, The Very Lonesome Boys.)

The 17 selections include: Make me A Cowboy (Again For A Day), The Wreck Of The Old Thirty-One, Broken Down Gambler, I Love Chicken Pie!, The Young Man Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn, Lost Indian, Oh Take Me Back, Four Cent Cotton, Goin' Back To Dixie, Sandy River Belie, Croquet Habit, Everybody Does It (In Hawaii), Good Fellow, Willy The Weeper, Three Miles South Of Cash, Travelin' Blues, and Tennessee Blues. Total playing time is approximately 57 minutes.
