Veronique Cyphyre
- Creator, Executive Producer, Director of, and lyricist for
C4CTM, considers herself a "revolutionary eccentric,"
and is tirelessly dedicated in her efforts to support choice. She has
found, much to her chagrin, that her belief system is not necessarily embraced
by everyone else on the planet. In an effort to spare her loved ones from the
not-always-complimentary reactions of others who hold the opinion that her effort
is akin to, among other things, (and we quote) "romping in the Devil's bed,"
she has adopted a subtle disguise to protect her identity.
Cabaret 4 ChoiceTM
is Veronique's first foray into the realm of theatrical/musical executive producing.
She was trained as a ballet dancer, and has appeared in so many productions
of "The Nutcracker," that she has, indeed, cracked, thus rendering her especially
well-suited for her latest incarnation as a Chanteuse Comedienne.
Building upon her training as a classical
dancer, she has been performing cabaret in her inimitable style for the past
five or so years, at venues in and around Los Angeles, most notably the Gardenia
Room in Hollywood. (And speaking of Hollywood, Veronique has been known to channel
Liberace doing his impression of RuPaul, thus giving rise to the suspicion that
she may actually be a drag queen trapped in a woman's body.)
Her influences (in no particular order
of significance) as a lyricist include: Dave Frishberg, who is responsible for
among others, a fabulous tune called "My Attorney Bernie" (anyone who can write
a funny song after dealing with a lawyer has to be a genius!); Donald Fagan,
who can do more to evoke a mood with three words than most writers can do in
three pages (and he makes ennui so sexy!); Cole Porter, who surely turned some
of the most amusing and elegant musical verse of all time.
Veronique also adores Irving Berlin,
who like she, had no formal training as a songwriter, and who neither read nor
wrote even one note of music; Noel Coward, who was one of the greatest wits
of the 20th Century; Gil Scott-Heron, who is one of the finest urban griots
of our day; and of course, Joni Mitchell, for what introspective, moody and
self-absorbed young woman growing up in the 70's did not own a well-worn copy
of "Court and Spark?"
Ms. Cyphyre most of all aspires to be
a worthy social entrepreneur, and is pleased to have been compared to
Paul Newman, who with his line of foods, is interested only in meeting production
costs, and donating the rest of the proceeds, after taxes, to a worthy cause.
She hopes one day to fulfill her potential to be a truly effective voice for
reproductive freedom. In the meantime, she is filled with gratitude for the
support of all the generous people who are helping her to realize her vision.
