Veradon Management proudly introduces The Ashford Gordon Band, performing "Tomorrow's
Rhythm and Blues Today"TM. The band was formed by Ashford Gordon
in the wake of his debut performance at the 1995 Monterey Blues Festival backing
Louisiana Guitar Red, the seminal blues guitarist who served as mentor to Ashford's
emerging Mississippi blues sensibilities.
A singer songwriter with a ringing baritone voice, Ashford Gordon accompanies
his singular vocals with the Fender Stratocaster. The soulful frontman is supported
by DC on Six-String Contrabass Guitar, Dean Giles on Drums, and Chris Rokusek
on Vocals and Keyboards.
DC has been interested in music since he bought a copy of the Beatles
"Come Together" single in 1970. He took up the guitar at age 15 and studied
Classical Guitar at Cal State Northridge. His main influences on Bass are Jaco
Pastorius and John Pattitucci. DC's groove anchors the band's cool, contemporary
sound.
Dean Giles, hails from Boston, Massachusetts and is well known to session
players and band leaders from coast to coast. Dean's backbeat drives The Ashford
Gordon Band. Sensitive to the subtle nuances of Blues and Jazz, he weaves a
perfect frame for fellow rhythm section members Gordon and DC. Crisp cymbal
work punctuates the band's arrangements and offers the superior foil for Gordon's
lyrical guitar lines.
Chris Rokusek learned rhythm and blues keyboard from touring acts passing
through the Zoo Bar in Lincoln, Nebraska. Playing in a family act from childhood
has provided Chris with a depth of experience which belies his age.
Though the youngest member of the group, he is known for his keen ear and sure
harmonic ideas during the band's recording and arranging sessions. Producing
an uncanny Hammond B3 organ sound from his keyboard, Chris is a strong soloist
and excels at coloring and texturing the band's overall sound. In addition,
Chris brings a clear tenor voice to the vocal mix, singing both backing and
lead vocals.
