Umbrella Man features the formidable talents
of some of the country's fastest-rising talent:
John Franklin plays
keyboards of all varieties. Listen and you
will hear vintage Arp and Moog
synthesizers and the occasional accordion.
John is also a classically trained composer and certified ethnomusicolgist.
John has scored Umbrella Man for orchestra for the upcoming performance
of the rock opera of the same name to be performed at the Wheeler Opera
House in September, 1996. (See attached.)
Steve Skinner writes
the songs and plays guitar, keyboards, percussion
and vocal. Steve is also a graphic designer
and satirical columnist for the Aspen
Daily News. He has a way of taking everyday insights and setting them
to music. His specialty...slicing open the soft white underbelly of society,
and dancing on the entrails. Listen to Pave It! and hear for yourself.
Scott Shiflett, the
bass player for the major label band Face
to Face, plays the wicked lead guitar
you find on Umbrella Man. Scott also contributes a track on the album called
Umbrella Man (second opening) on which he plays drums,
bass, guitar and vocal. He wrote and
performed all of the tracks on this tune in just under 15 minutes, yet
the tune is bound to become an interruptus classic over the years.
Chris Taylor plays
guitar, percussion and vocal
on the album. Chris is also an extremely devoted and talented songwriter
and solo performer. During the recording sessions, Chris became known as
"Track Slut" because of his unbridled enthusiasm for recording tracks of
any kind.
Michael Meadows plays
drums. He's not really a drummer, but that's
okay when it's interruptus. Michael's simple, funky straight-ahead drumming
is just what the Umbrella Man ordered, so check it out. Michael also contributes
his songwriting and singing talents to tracks
like "Floatation Situation" and " "Herb". Michael plays lead guitar in
the band Friends of Your Mother.
Dan McCann is a grizzled
veteran of the Austin guitar rock scene and the LA butt-kicking blues scene.
His bass lines come straight at you and mow
you right down if you're not ready. Even if you are ready, they will shake
your very foundation. Dann's playing can be found on numerous other CD
recordings by the likes of Evan Johns and the H-Bombs, Wakabak, and more.
This new album is the brainchild of Aspen resident
Steve Skinner.
$10 plus $3 shipping and ever so much handling.
It is his second CD. The first, Wakabak,
